Look for further privatization and further budget cuts, especially to respite and day programs. The waiting lists for services will grow much longer. The Gov. was talking about 2,000 state employee layoffs, in addition to the 1,400 already let go. That would probably be about 300 for DDS (formerly DMR). The real victims will be disbled people and their families. So far, any opposition to Gov. Patrick's future plans for retarded people is weak. Over the past few years, the current state government has basically won 100% of the time whenever it has picked a fight with the families of retarded people, the unions, and the private vendor agencies. Look for more easy victories and more cuts in services.
